Homework Wednesday, 1/9

Pre-Algebra: Pg. 214 #1 - 33 odd.  Answers are listed below, and I have included the even numbered answers if you would like to do them for extra practice.
Also, if you would like to do the worksheets I handed out in class the past two days, you may turn them in as optional assignments (you don't have to complete all of them).

Algebra: No homework.

Notes on reading the answers: I will use * to mean multiplication, so "two times three" would be 2 * 3.
I will use the ^ symbol to mean raising to a power, so "x to the 5th power" would be x^5.
Division and the fraction bar will use a /, with the numerator and denominator separated by parentheses if necessary.  "Two-thirds" would then be 2 / 3, and something like "8 times x squared over 9 times y" would be (8x^2) / (9y).
Alternate answers are possible, email me if you have any questions.

1. 3^3 (or, these can always be written without the exponent as 3 * 3 * 3)
2. (2^2) * 3 * 5 (remember, even numbers are not required tonight)
3. (2^2) * 3 * 7
4. (2^2) * 5 * 13
5. 25, not relatively prime
6. 1, relatively prime
7. 2, not relatively prime
8. 6, not relatively prime
9. 3 / 10
10. 23 / 30
11. x / 2
12. (6a) / b
13. 3 / 5
14. 11 / 12
15. 7 / 45
16. 61 / 100
17a. 2/7 in game 1; 1/3 game 2; 3/13 game 3; 1/13 game 4; 4/15 game 5
17b. Game 2
18. 13^10
19. 20 * m^13
20. 1 / (7^3) or 7^(-3)
21. (w^12) / 6
22. 1 / (15^4)
23. 16 / (h^7); note that the 16 remains in the numerator
24. 12
25. (n^5) / (m^4)
26. 5.1 * 10^9
27. 6.45 * 10^12
28. 8.97 * 10^(-9)
29. 9.3 * 10^(-7)
30. 9.0 *10^17 < 5.2 * 10^18
31. 7.31 * 10^(-2) > 7.31 * 10^(-3)
32. 1.25 * 10^(-9) > 1.05 * 10^(-9)
33. 8.12 * 10^5 > 8.18 * 10^4
