Pre-Algebra: Pg. 360 - 361 #8 - 17, 23, 33 - 36

Algebra: Pg. 619 - 620 #A - E, 2, 4, 7 - 10

Homework Friday, 4/20

Pre-Algebra: Make sure you're caught up on all your stock stuff. Other than that, nothing.

Algebra: If you're going to Oly next year, you should be studying the worksheets and book pages I gave you about what will be on your test. Remember that it is this coming Tuesday at 3:15, and we will not meet again before you take your test. Email me with any questions that arise.

Homework Thursday, 4/19

Pre-Algebra: Pg. 356 #28 - 39

Algebra: Pg. Pg. 239 #1 - 5. Do NOT follow the instructions in the book, but instead use the quadratic formula and leave your answers in EXACT form. I guess you can get these answers by completing the square, too, but either way, your answers should be exact, not rounded.

Homework Wednesday, 4/18

Pre-Algebra: Pg. 355 - 356 #20 - 27 (skip #25), 40, 41

Algebra: Pg. 107 #43 - 48, 57 - 66

Homework Monday, 4/16

Pre-Algebra: Pg. 342 - 343 #13 - 32, 40 - 45

Algebra: I gave you a worksheet in class. Recommended that you do at least 4 from the first section, 1 or both of the vertical motion, and at least 2 graphs. Here are the answers:
1. x = 6 or 3
2. x = 6 or -2
3. x = -4 or 3
4. x = -2.35 or -7.65
5. x = 2.5 or -4
6. x = -1/3 or 3
7. x = 1.42 or -8.42
8. x = 0.39 or -6.39
9. x = 0.41 or -7.41
10. x = 6

11a. 9.8175 m
11b. No.
11c. reaches at time t = 0.6 seconds, max height of h = 9.8 m
11d. after 2 seconds

12a. 71.55 m
12b. at 1.89 seconds and 7.31 seconds
12c. at 4.6 seconds, max height 102.8 m above the ground
12d. lands at 9.13 seconds

For 13 - 18, I will give the vertex first, and then the x-intercepts. You need to be able to also construct the actual graph.
13. Vertex: (-1, -4); Intercepts: x = -3, x = 1
14. V: (2.5, -9.25); I: x = 5.54 and x = -0.54
15. V: (0.75, -6.125); I: x = -1 and x = 2.5
16. V: (-0.5, 2.25); I: x = -2 and x = 1
17. V: (-2, 3); I: No x-intercepts.
18. V: (-4, -8); I: x = 1.66 and x = -9.66

Homework Friday, 4/13

Pre-Algebra: None. It would be great if you could have your 3 stocks figured out and "purchased" by Monday, though.

Algebra: Work on what you are weakest on for the test, which is Tuesday. Everyone should have something to do, so we can focus our review on Monday. Here are some recommended sections to take a look at.

Factoring: page 439 #17 - 40

Completing the Square: pages 239 - 240 #1 - 10 (basic); #21 - 30 (the "b" term is odd); #41 - 50 (the "a" term is not equal to 1)

Quadratic Formula: pages 245 - 246 #1 - 20 (basic); #31 - 34 (require some basic transformations first); #34 - 40 (require more complicated transformations first)

Vertical Motion: pages 252 - 257 #4, 6, 10, 17, 18

Graphing: You can practice graphing by setting any of the equations from the above sections equal to "y" instead of 0, and finding the intercepts, vertex, etc.
Also, page 635 #3; page 656 #1 - 10
